The Welty Family Foundation awarded $212,001 in grants to local nonprofit organizations at its midyear 2011 meeting.The recipients are:• Act II Productions-The Illusion Factory, $4,000 for performances in Akron-area schools.• Actors Summit, $2,500 for production costs.• Akron Blind Center & Workshop, $2,500 for the Reading With a New Vision program to bring in local authors to share their books via Braille.• Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank, $10,000 for operations.• Akron Inner City Soccer Club, $3,000 for year-round and summer camp programs.• Akron Marathon Charitable Corp., $3,000 for signage for Road Runner Akron Marathon.• Akron Rotary Camp for Special Children, $10,000 for general support and capital campaign to improve facilities.• Akron Zoological Park, $5,000 to add more aquarium features.• All-Star Training Club, $3,500 for summer academic and sports scholarships.• Alliance for Healthy Youth, $2,000 for the Healthy Youth Project prevention programs at area middle and high schools.• American National Red Cross of Summit and Portage Counties, $4,928 to purchase a trailer to store medical equipment for disaster supplies.• Blick Clinic, $1,400 for Helping Hands for Healthy Minds supplies to help developmentally disabled adults to help the homeless • Boys and Girls Clubs of the Western Reserve, $17,500 for the Achieving Academic Success educational program and the Serving More Kids Now! Joy Park Project for technology equipment and installation.• Central Summit County Choral Society, $4,000 for vocal arts scholarships for the Summit Children’s Choir Program.• Charles and Salome Reymann Foundation, $7,219 to replace furnaces at a Canton Road group home.• Community Drug Board-Community Health Center, $7,500 to expand Horizon House to serve more homeless young adults.• Community Outreach Resources Exchange-CORE Furniture Bank, $7,000 for vehicle maintenance.• Downtown Akron Partnership, $4,000 for First Night Akron artist fees and the Entertainment Passport program.• East Akron Neighborhood Development Corp., $6,000 for an emergency home repair program for low-income Summit County households.• First Book-Greater Akron Chapter, $3,000 to provide age-appropriate books to Greater Akron-area children living in poverty.• Goodwill Industries of Akron Inc., $12,500 for retail gift cards through the Elizabeth Clark Emergency Fund.• Greenleaf Family Center, $5,000 to replace failing computer equipment.• Guardians Against Sex Predators, $3,000 for its Kid’s Identification Program.• Habitat for Humanity of Summit County, $10,000 for the A Home of Our Own capital campaign.• Jewish Community Center of Akron-Girls on the Run of Greater Summit, $3,000 for registration fee subsidies.• Junior Achievement of North Central Ohio, $3,500 for programs for Summit County students.• Leadership Akron, $2,500 for program activities for Class XXVIII and N.E.X.T. program for senior leaders.• Magical Theatre Company, $3,500 for the KidScripts writing program that adapts students stories into plays performed at their school.• Marian’s Closet, $2,500 for computer support to help provide diapers, wipes, formula, children’s underwear and socks.• North Coast Community Homes, $5,000 to replace windows in West Cedar Street apartment building for indigent tenants.• Northeastern Educational Television of Ohio-Western Reserve Public Media, $5,000 for acquisition and broadcast expenses of arts and cultural programming.• Oak Clinic for Multiple Sclerosis, $12,500 for the Treat & Empower: Be Informed, Be Well educational outreach series.• Ohio Presbyterian Retirement Services-Rockynol, $3,000 for Life Care Commitment to enable residents to stay regardless of financial circumstances.• Summit Education Initiative, $2,500 for the Destination College annual Camp Kick-Off at Camp Y-Noah.• True North Ministry, $1,454 for Project Achieve Leadership Lunches hosted by incarcerated and paroled Summit County youth offenders.• Tuesday Musical Association, $2,500 for complimentary student tickets and the busing program.• Weathervane Community Playhouse, $4,000 for theatrical productions and education programs.• Western Reserve Land Conservancy, $7,500 to create Adam’s Run Trail and expand urban greenway system in southeast Akron.• Western Reserve Historical Society-Hale Farm & Village, $5,000 for educational programming.• Williams Challenge, $5,000 for the Man2Man educational program for re-entry and fatherhood education.• Youth Excellence Performing Arts Workshop, $5,000 for the Summer Performing Arts workshop on the University of Akron campus for urban youths.The Welty Family Foundation was established in 1999 by Jerry and Emily Welty to benefit charitable causes in the Greater Akron area.
